What is Heartworm?
April 27, 2012 in General Stuff!, Health & Safety
I had personally never heard the word "heartworm" until I started rescue. Being in California, it seemed that this ailment never existed. But, the more pets I see in shelters, the more I'm finding the word.
Heartworm comes from the bite of an infected mosquito. You'll find that dogs who have been left outside at night may be more apt to get the disease. It is not a death sentence unless it goes untreated.
Heartworm has been reported to exist all over the United States now. You Read more [...]
Sampson has been at the Harbor Animal Shelter, San Pedro, CA far too long! He's a big boy who needs a big lap to cuddle up into! He's been dumped to die, and is really asking for a home to call his own for his retirement years. There has to be someone out there who will love him and share some golden times with him! Please get his name and face out there. He REALLY needs some networking. Thank you.

Isn't it nice to have a state move forward with dissolving BSL (Breed Specific Legislature). Here is a link to their Assembly Act that started the whole remedy. I look forward to more states following this example. Thank you, Ohio! It gives the rest of us hope!
According to a Facebook page called "REFORM DEVORE ANIMAL SHELTER", Devore Shelter in San Bernardino County, CA has AGAIN pulled an unexplainable act that will lead to endless deaths of adoptable pets. Rescuers and every-day people who network these faces before they get killed by this shelter are now scraping for details on the pets in need. Most shelters will have what they call a "kennel card" which will explain details on each pet including intake date, age, breed, available date, spayed/neutered,

She's not sure what she's doing there in the shelter. A bit confused when I first met her, but after my two girls spent a few seconds coaching her over, she turned into a wiggle butt! She's adorable! Only about 8 months old and just a sweetie pie. Her big ol' ears are just sooooo cute! Miss personality! She was available 4/18 and I really thought someone would either come back for her or adopt her quickly, but she's still sitting there, waiting. Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Pit Bull Terrier
About 2 years old, this girl is soooooooo sweet! She'll greet you with a big smile, and she has such pretty eyes. She took my breath away when I saw her because she has such unusual coloring. Her picture doesn't do her justice. I don't know what she's mixed with, but she's certainly a sweeti pie who deserves a nice person to love. Please share her info.... she was available 4/18 and is STILL THERE. Thank you.

While people met at City Hall to have a vigil for Justice, the suspect, Darius Ewing turned himself in! He was the person who allegedly flicked the cigarette onto the 4-month-old puppy covered in lighter fluid. He was NOT the only one there, causing this situation. Please, if you know anything about this incident in Dallas, Texas, for Justice's sake, make things right and turn these other cowards in. Hopfully Ewing will talk.
How anyone can set a puppy on fire is beyond comprehension. But someone did, and so many people tried desperately to help save the 4 month old they named Justice from death's door. But Justice was beyond what we on earth could do. He succumbed to his injuries, suffering septic shock , and though everyone was hopeful for a possible recovery, he died in the hands of these people who loved him until the end.
Dallas police are currently seeking the 18-year-old man responsible for Justice's
**RESCUED 4/26!**
This sweetheart came in as a stray and won't be able to live long at the shelter. She's extremely skinny and looks to be completely blind. Someone hasn't cared enough to come and get her! She seems very sweet and can hear. She appreciates love, but is soooooo lost in the shelter. Please help her quickly if you can. I personally have met her and feel sooooo badly for her being there without her family. Petfinder Adoptable Dog | Chow Chow | Corona, CA
