We believe that pets should NOT be classified as personal property. We believe the laws need to CHANGE so that pets have rights and are perceived to be precious living souls. AND we need to find a way to HELP kill shelters who accept change to create no-kill answers. California’s HAYDEN’S ACT in jeopardy! Gov. Jerry Brown trying to kill it… therefore kill the shelter pets!

Hayden’s Act is the ONLY enforcement requiring shelter pets to have a few days “stay of execution” more and requiring shelter staff to work with licensed rescues on trying to save the pets. Please help the shelter pets by joining forces and letting California’s governor Jerry Brown understand that by abolishing the Hayden’s Act, our shelters will have the right to go on killing sprees and deny life to our faithful companions.

Without Hayden’s act, California power-hungry shelter staff can kill adoptable pets freely. They don’t have to allow any rescues help in trying to get those pets out and into foster or adoptive homes. You would not believe the number of POWER HUNGRY, INCONSIDERATE, and SELF-CENTERED people work at shelters, controlling the fate of precious lives when others are trying desperately to save them! We can NOT lose Hayden’s Act. Yes, there are many holes in it, and some shelters have snubbed their noses at it, but abolishing it is NOT the answer.

We DO have to find other resources for thrown-away pets, because shelters are full. We need to give pets RIGHTS to where they are not PERSONAL PROPERTY any more, and things may fall into place as far as “ownership” responsibility. But in the meantime, going backwards and diminishing the efforts by closing doors on important acts is just hurtful to all trying to move forward on this. It’s not even winter yet, and it’s coooooooold!

Using the word “SHELTER” wrong… there is no “KILL” written in the dictionary…

Shelter – Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Definition of SHELTER:

a : something that covers or affords protection shelter>

b : an establishment providing food and shelter (as to the homeless)

c : an establishment that houses and feeds stray animals

: a position or the state of being covered and protectedshelter>

Now, where exactly is the word “KILL” or “MURDER” in there?

Is “POUND” more appropriate? It’s not in the dictionary as we think it as describing animals and the dog catcher. Hmmm… maybe we SHOULD find another, appropriate word for A KILL PLACE FOR PETS WHO ARE ABANDONED OR HOMELESS.

What rescuers “think” about people getting rid of their pets. THEY ARE FAMILY MEMBERS FOR LIFE!

This is Jeff Coltenback with his “venting” video on youtube. I wanted to post it because anyone getting a pet needs to realize he/she is responsible for that pet for life. Please don’t EVER get a pet if you don’t want to see it through to its old age! Pets die by the millions yearly because of people dumping their pet for whatever reasons. This needs to STOP! Pets are NOT personal property when it comes to the eyes of love. They are FAMILY MEMBERS… and to be treated as such!

Sweet Spencer didn’t deserve to be dumped like this! He’s in urgent need at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA. VERY emaciated and needing TLC immediately. Please call for him and make his faith in human companionship once again restored.

UPDATE:

via Christy Chapman from the FB report… As some of you know, I went to visit Spencer yesterday. He was in isolation where it is quiet and warm, he was tucked in up to his chin in fuzzy blankets. The rescue coordinator there was so kind and shared with me all she knows about him. She felt he was an indoor dog and simply lost his way, that his family is probably out there searching for him, but the founder didn’t tell the shelter where he was found, so they were unable to focus on an area to network. He had on a collar, but no tags nor was microchipped. This sweet old guy had trouble standing on his own yesterday for his exam, so instead was held and loved on all day. When I saw him he did not even try to move a paw or an ear, instead he just looked at me and watched my every move with his sweet deep brown eyes. I could tell he was heartbroken, and his body was weak. I was afraid he was going to give up last night, he just had that look in his eyes.. He looks to be around 10. Other than being so skinny, his outward appearance wasn’t awful. The shelter sent off blood work to see what else could be ailing him. Let me tell you, this shelter is amazing. They were aware of all of the networkers that had called, and had even made note of one willing to foster. I was the first person to actually visit him and give her my rescue info..and she was going to connect me with the foster. This place cares, they truly do. However, I must now give you “the news”. The kind rescue coordinator called me, as promised, as soon as the blood work came back this morning and after the vet had evaluated him again. This morning he could not lift his head to eat, could not move even slightly. The blood work showed he is in full renal failure, has a seperate infection, and an inerior tumor. In the vet’s opinion, Spencer is suffering and in pain..and I agree. This morning, they are doing what is best for Spencer, and letting him go to the Bridge. The warm hearted rescue coordinator will be holding him as he passes. Thank you to all that supported him and cared from afar. This shelter now knows to call me whenever they have a Boxer in need. All donations will be refunded this morning. Please say a prayer this morning for Spencer.. I am thankful he spent his last days with caring individuals, cuddled and loved, and not alone on the streets.
