She lived to inspire me to inspire everyone else to help those who need homes. Call it craziness, call it mid-life crisis, call it missing her...

How this site began...

When we lost our beloved Tycho just before Christmas, she left a great big big hole in my heart. I pursued a way to let her memory live on and help others find their way to their own furry angels.

About a year prior to this, I had begun a site called HorseShadows.com. The site revolves around non-profit horse rescues across the United States. You may read the “ABOUT US” page on that site for details, but the rage that struck that one was when I found out about “horse hunters”, buying older horses to sell to slaughter houses. I was trying to rehome my horse SARGE because we were about to adopt 4 young children and thought we needed to thin out our farm. When I confronted these murderers, I felt the need to do something, hence HorseShadows.com. By the way, the farm only grew!!! :)

When Tycho died, I just felt I had to dive into other pets that needed me. I went to shelters, and went to websites.... all of those sad faces looking back at me just haunted me. I knew I couldn’t take them all home, and I couldn’t even be a foster/rescue person because I’d keep all of them! But maybe I COULD help others in their assistance.

I began US Animal Rescue in my hometown of the Inland Empire in California. I listed shelters in the San Bernardino and Riverside areas. Within a month, I had over 5,000 unique visitors and quite a few emails asking if I was going to extend to any more areas.

So I did. A month later I expanded the forum to Orange County and Los Angeles. Within a few weeks we doubled our visitors and more emails came asking for their areas to be covered.

Within 4 weeks, I had all of Southern California up. And within 2 months we had almost 20,000 unique visitors. STILL.... more people emailing me in hopes that I’d extend to Northern California and other states.

     Soooooo....... I did.

In early May, 2009, US Animal Rescue became UNITED STATES Animal Rescue. I began alphabetically with the states, Googling for every rescue and shelter I could find. As I write this, I am on my “N” states, with over 5000 posts already. I wanted to make sure every rescue and shelter had a location and link to visit their mission statements if available and their adoptable pets.

In the first two months, we’ve increased our traffic to well over 50,000 unique visitors. Rescues are joining and adding their information which is helping me as I go, too. I hope more will follow in their footsteps. I’m offering rescues and shelters their own free boards to post their pets, just for the benefit of more linkables to the internet browsers.

I only started the website.... now it belongs to the community and their amazing efforts to write the next chapter.

changing oUR name to:
Adopt US Animal Rescue
We find our efforts moving forward...and we’re in the beginning stages of non-profit status. In our studies, we’ve found out the “US”, although not initialed, may cause problems in our business entity filing for corporation. We’ve added the “ADOPT” in front of US Animal Rescue. We will also be adding a section concentrating on the adoption of older pets called SENIOR TAILS. As we proceed to non-profit status, we will be setting up that site for those who share in the passion of helping our senior animals abandoned at the shelter find permanent homes.

    Maybe our hearts
 will rub off on others...

When we all do things together, things seem to magically happen. When I hear that a 12-year-old dog was adopted because he was seen on the website, it’s all the satisfaction I would ever need to keep going. The network of people here is wonderful. We understand each other with our passion to help.

When most people think of getting a dog, they first think of the breed they may want, then seek that breed out through ads selling puppies.

US Animal Rescue is dedicated to all of those animals who used to be those puppies and grew bigger, or who happened to be mixed in breed and weren’t “up to par” with the status quo. We’re dedicated to the pets who “got too big!” or who “require too much time.”

US Animal Rescue is also dedicated to those who are helping our homeless pets. Shelters, Rescues, individual animal lovers, all sharing a common bond.... the empathy and helpless energy in helping.

So, please excuse our growing pains, and an occasional blooper or two when this all catches up to me at times and one person is spread too thin. I’ve done my best (Learning the computer as I go along... not by far a computer nerd) and have tried to make this a safe and positive place for everyone who loves pets to use. My hope is that some day we won’t need a place like this anymore. But while we do, I give you my best.

Adoption is my family’s thing... and as long as we have room in our home, we’ll keep on adopting. I will not stop here.... for our Senior Tails section is coming, focusing on the older pets who are overlooked in the shelters.

Check back from time to time... you never know what you’ll find in our world of helping those that have lost a family to love.

From my heart to your’s,
Thank you for being involved in helping our furry angels.

This website is YOUR’S now!!!! ENJOY!

Sincerely,
Kim Littlefield
